Catedrale di San Vigilio (Duomo)


Better known as "Duomo" or "Catedrale di Trento" is dedicated to San Vigilio, patron of the city.
It is an imposing Romanesque-Gothic building built between the XII-XIII centuries. It is accompanied by a bell tower built in the XVI century. There are funerary monuments and remainis of the frescoes in the XII and XV centuries in the trasepts. In the crypt remains on the early Christian basilica of the VI century and the subsequent restructuring during IX and XII centuries.
It became important during the Council of Trent, held between 1545 and 1563, where the Counter was supported. It was the time of Prince Bishops, as Cristoforo Madruzzo.
